interesting for this reason:

again addressing the big long essay i keep having to put off
there is this idea that "feminism" is either extreme or no longer necessary
much as "racial equality"
casualty of the casual and casuistry
because people have the luxury in believing an oppressive level of sexism and racism no longer exist
people who happily live in a world were they never experience the disturbing and hostile aspects of oppression by pervading attitudes can believe this
those outside cannot
and it's not envy
it's bewilderment preceding the reaction to basic injustice
and at how basic a level ignorance persists

my last consistent contact with college kids gave me the definite impression many thought they had moved beyond just concepts perpetuated by unenlightened old school thinking
thinking because things had been in their enviroment as topics or pop culture
they have any idea of what they might be representative of

just because something has passed its hot topic phase of exposure and discussion doesn't mean it's been resolved

the suburbs seem to be killing more than me

accepting difference and variance is not the same as assuming homogeny
mashing everything into the same pasty consistency
that something maintaining its distinction and individuality being seen as a ranking or value
seems part of a much larger issue of deep seated problems of identity, perhaps primordial response of defensive fear
the knee jerk response in defense of the "other" is far more stereotypical
and damaging for that fact
people can dismiss otherness without every recognizing it
reacting far more extremely when it is unavoidable
as it is all the more alien

perpetuating any common social moray for the sake of ease and acceptance is disturbing as being the still current means of common interaction

being too willing to jump into the fray can be as detrimental as ignoring it
it's not what you do but they way that you do it
and people wonder where the sucky teachers come from
